Cary and I were sick half the time we were there. We even got a day to go to Bangor to celebrate our 5 month anniversary, and before lunch, we had driven back home and gone to bed for a nap. I'm so glad that we started feeling better, though, because there was too much scenery and beauty to miss.
We drove through Acadia National Park, visiting 2 different beaches, one with sand and the other with pebbles.
We met some crazy seagulls that apparently had been fed too much human food because they stalked you as you sat in a parking spot and ate. Of course, I couldn't help but indulge. I just hope I didn't blow them up with all the kibbles I gave them!
Among all of the animals we saw there, we can include:
red fox
chipmunks (my favorites, which fought and played around their food outside our window)
woodpecker
loons
Bald Eagle (my other favorite...it was so majestic as it flew through the woods searching for food. I did not have my camera ready the 2 times I saw it. So breath taking!)
The house we rented had canoes that we enjoyed, except for the pesky gnats that swarmed around us.
Visited a placed called H.O.M.E, which sold crafts made by people who did not have jobs and were recovering from some ailment and lived in a shelter.
Visited the shore where Andre the seal lived (remember the movie? Yep, that Andre!). We ate lunch there, outside in the freezing cold while Cary's parents stayed warm in the car. Try convincing someone it feels good when your huddling together, trying to keep from shivering.
Went to Freeport, the main headquarters for LL Bean, where Brenda and I got out our shopping urges. Cary and I then got to eat Thai for dinner that night.
We went on a mad hunt for fire stations that sold t-shirts for my dad, finally finding one or two. Gary and Brenda were great sports for being patient and toting us around.
Have you ever heard of lobster ice cream? Yeah, it's supposedly a hot commodity up there. I think perhaps people send it to their friends and family because of the shock value.
We saw many lighthouses along the way. I guess that's not really a great bit of trivia since we were on the coast, but it was really cool to see nonetheless!
For being someone who does not remember the vacation all that well, I think I put enough into words. So now, I'll let the beautiful pictures tell the rest!
